Where to Eat, Drink & Watch the Oscars in NYC
Hollywood’s biggest night of the year is this Sunday, March 2nd. If you didn’t manage to score a ticket to Vanity Fair’s exclusive star-studded Oscar party or your invite to Sir Elton John’s gala got lost in the mail, there’s no reason to be home alone. There are plenty of places in New York to enjoy some glitz and glamour, award-winning foods and cocktail specials on this star-studded evening. Check out our guide to the best places to celebrate the 86th Annual Academy Awards.
The Jimmy at The James Hotel – If you want to watch the Oscars with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop, then check out the scene at Jimmy’s at The James. This sleek rooftop bar and lounge will be showing the award ceremony on their whopping projection screen. And there will be a full menu of handcrafted cocktails, including the “Director’s Cut” created just for the occasion. Chef David Burke will be laying on a feast with highlights, like Kobe Franks In A Blanket with honey mustard, crispy Eastern oysters with Brussels & bacon slaw, Mini Grilled Cheese on brioche, Deviled Dggs & Bacon, Prime Short Rib Empanadas. (No chance of fitting into an Oscar dress after this meal, but you probably were invited anyway.)

Osteria Morini – If you’re looking for a casual, but tasty spot to critique the red carpet clothing, Chef Michael White’s Soho Italian will be hosting their annual Oscar viewing ceremony. The party will feature live red carpet coverage, an a la carte menu with Sunday night specials and Oscar ballots to fill out your predictions. Start with rustic Italian classics, like cured meats and cheeses and traditional antipasti. It’s going to be a long night, so you’d be wise to tank up on White’s killer pastas. Our favorites include the Spaghetti with Clams and the Tagliatelle Ragu.

Terroir – On Oscar Night at Terroir in Murray Hill, guests can play dress up & win prizes for a red carpet costume contest and submit their award predictions as they watch the festivities on the tube… and enjoy free popcorn. The “terroirist” with the most accurate Oscar ballot will be rewarded with a glass of Champagne. While it may be a wine bar, there’s some serious bar food with a distinctly Italian bent, including a roster of Bruschetta topped with everything from chicken Liver to Straciatella, Mozzarella Balls, and Grilled Calamari with Smoked chick peas.

The Butterfly NYC – Michael White’s Tribeca cocktail bar and supper club will be screening the show and offering American-inspired eats with plenty of nods to White’s home state of Wisconsin. (Think Chicken Wings, Flat Iron Steak & Fried Chicken and Biscuits.) Just as compelling are mixologist Eben Freeman’s cocktails, including his Brandy Old-Fashioned, Mai Tai and Grasshopper. Fill out Oscar ballots with your best guesses at the award winners and try your luck at their trivia round and you could stand a chance of taking home an award that evening, too.
