C-CAP’s 4th Annual Taste of Fall

If you don’t already have tickets, you’ll want to snag a few to attend C-CAP’s Fourth Annual Taste of Fall at Marcus Samuelsson’s beloved Harlem eatery, Red Rooster.  C-CAP stands for Careers Through Culinary Arts Programs and the organization’s helped thousands of talented and underserved high school students attain culinary scholarships and job opportunities in some of the best kitchens around the country.  (They’ve awarded over 37 million dollars in scholarships!) Forget reality TV, Top Chef and cooking shows for one night- Pressure Cooker is a real life drama about life in the kitchen.  Jennifer Grausman and Mark Becker’s new documentary follows three students from low income areas of Philly through culinary school and into the real world.  The documentary is  inspired by the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), which provides scholarships, education and internships to underserved students across the country,    Pressure Cooker has already won the Special Jury Prize at the Los Angeles Film Festival for Best Documentary at the Philadelphia Cinequest as well as Audience Awards at the Aspen Film Festival and Portland International Film Festival. City Harvest’s Bid Against Hunger

City Harvest’s 18th Annual BID Against Hunger will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York on Tuesday, October 16, at 7:30 P.M. The event, which features Eric Ripert, Zakary Pelaccio, Michael Anthony, Marcus Samuelsson, Alex Stupak, and about 65 other chefs, will be held as a benefit to help City Harvest’s efforts to feed New York’s hungry.

Dine Out Irene

Although hurricane Irene amazed to more of a party then a natural disaster here in the city, our upstate neighbors are still hurting. Farms were flooded, crops and homes destroyed, and even Dinosaur BBQ’s Troy location had to close down for a few days to get their dining room back into shape. Enter Dine Out Irene, the food world’s answer to emergency relief. Make a reservation at your favorite restaurant for September 25th (we’re taking the opportunity to try out the new Fatty ‘Cue!) and if it’s a participating restaurant (here’s the list), they’ll donate 10% of your bill to New York farms that were hurt by the hurricane. Another Labor Day has come and gone, and now it’s back to school, back to fall food happenings.  Summer may be the time to get outta town, but fall is all about being seen in the city.  France’s Le Fooding is back for a second year with its decidedly casual dining events and annual Vendy Awards, a tasting and award ceremony celebrating  everyone’s favorite street carts.   For one night, chefs are transforming Roosevelt Island into Pig Island for a pig-apalooza of sorts and that’s just for starters. The Hungry in America & Feed Fundraiser

C-CAP's 20th Anniversary Celebration

Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser at Suenos Restaurant
