Mother’s Day 2015 Dining Guide
It’s almost Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 10th), and you know what that means — all of New York’s best brunch tables will soon be filled. But we’ve got a list of eight great places where you can still arrange to properly indulge and pamper your mom, from Tom Colicchio’s Riverpark, with sweeping views of the waterfront to Floyd Cardoz’ Tribeca destination White Street, offering a fun-filled, kid-friendly brunch, to the venerable Four Seasons — which, like that special lady in your life — simply never goes out of style.
Riverpark
While not as frequently buzzed about as Craft or Colicchio & Sons, Riverpark is undoubtedly the most breathtaking addition to Tom Colicchio’s restaurant group, featuring both an expansive, outdoor patio, a casual, picnic-table packed terrace, and its own urban farm, all overlooking the glittering East River. And during Mother’s Day, you can have your pick of open-air options, for either the $55-per person brunch or a la carte dinner, with options that range from Duck Confit Salad and Fried Chicken and Waffles, to Grilled Mayan Prawns with mint and peas and Saffron Spaccatelli tossed with peekytoe crab.

Floyd Cardoz’ White Street may be handsomely equipped for serious power lunches and even more high-stakes dinners, but little ones are entirely welcome to come frolic during the restaurant’s kid-friendly, Mother’s Day brunch. They’ll content themselves with storybook reading, face painting, music and games, while mom enjoys a $59, three-course prix fixe, including dishes like Burrata Flat Bread and Concord Grape Pop Tarts for the table, oyster-studded “Hang Town Fry” Omelets, and Poached Eggs with Pastrami Smoked Salmon.

We’ll admit that The Four Seasons isn’t exactly part of our regular dining rotation. But when better than Mother’s Day to go for broke (to the tune of $150 per person), and book a poolside lunch or dinner at the renowned, upper-crust restaurant? Their four-course, Mother’s Day progression will include a variety of options, such as Oysters on the half shell, Gravlax with dill-mustard sauce, Wild Nettle Risotto topped with rock shrimp, and Nectarine Clafouti with vanilla ice cream.

Hopefully, the weather will hold out for Mother’s Day, and you’ll be able to take advantage of the two levels of outdoor seating, during Crave’s three-course, $40 brunch or a la carte dinner. Seafood-focused choices include Fluke Ceviche Tostadas, Fried Oyster BLTs, Maine Lobster Benedict and Grilled Scottish Salmon — and good news for health-conscious moms — a large portion of the menu is gluten-free!

Charlie Palmer’s flagship is offering a three-course brunch for only $49 per person (you can also order a la carte), with a serious slew of options. Think Raw Oysters, Foie Gras Terrine or Scrambled Eggs with salmon and caviar for starters, Yellowfin Tuna Salad Nicoise, Garganelli Pasta with rabbit and Soft Shell Crab BLT as mains, and Meyer Lemon Tart, Saint Honore made with praline cream puffs, or a Jivara Milk Chocolate Trifle for dessert.

This Union Square restaurant, takeaway spot and juice bar sources its ingredients directly from the greenmarket. And while its emphasis is on clean, natural, unprocessed, sustainable, and hyper-local food (developed alongside of an in-house nutritionist), the Pure Food and Wine and Eleven Madison Park-trained chefs make dishes your mom is sure to love, such as Heirloom Tomato Panzanella, Chicken Paillard with goat cheese, and Seasonal Frittatas with chipotle-tahini sauce, enjoyed with organic, cold-pressed cocktails.
Millesime
French for “vintage,” this multi-roomed Midtown stunner is decked out with a circa-1904 Tiffany skylight dome, original mosaic floors and 100-year-old bars. It’s quite the setting for a free-flowing, $39-per person “Punch Brunch” with mom, featuring Croque Madame, Crème Brulee Pain Perdu, Shrimp Benedict, Squash Gnocchi, and Lemon Parfait with warm huckleberries and pound cake croutons, accompanied by unlimited flutes of Prosecco-topped punch.

The Meatpacking District has long been a destination for utterly classy French bistros. But since Pastis is temporarily closed, sexy little Bagatelle — which also has outposts in tony St. Barths and St. Tropez — is an excellent alternative option. Y our mom will be treated to a complimentary mimosa, before selecting brunch specials such as Black Truffle Flatbread with crème fraiche, Gnocchi a la Parisienne, Braised Beef Short Rib Croissant, or quail egg with Filet Mignon Tartare.
