There’s no arguing that Brooklyn isn’t hurting for good restaurants, but Prospect Heights is still a relatively underserved neighborhood, at least, compared to Williamsburg and Carroll Gardens. Luckily, the guys behind Al di Là (one of the restaurants that helped launch Park Slope as a hip dining destination in the first place) have opened another spot in the area, so you have a better chance of sampling their home-style Italian cooking with less of a wait. There’s lots to love, like Calamari with Almonds, Warm Farro Salad with Peas and Ricotta Salata, and Lasagna al Forno. One of our favorite finds is on the brunch menu – the Crispy Duck Legs. The skin is true to its name and the meat is juicy and tender. It’s served with a salad of kohlrabi (a cousin of cabbage), lentils, apples, shallots, and sunchokes, and topped off with an apple cider vinegar-based sauce, which helps balance out the rich, fatty meat. Pair it with the Fried Spicy Chickpeas for an extra crunch, or sop up the juices with a side of focaccia. Either way, go check out this charming drop-in trattoria before the rest of the world catches on.
