The Breslin Bar & Dining Room
New York
NY 10001
There’s nothing restrained about the food or the drinks at this hip bar, tucked inside the equally hip Ace Hotel. Where Chef April Bloomfield is concerned, that’s always a very good thing. Take the boiled peanuts, for example. They’re fried in Pork Fat, the Scotch Egg is rolled in sausage, breaded and fried, and there are plenty more bar snacks to pair with The Breslin’s unique beer-based libations. A mezcal-laced riff on the Michelada, their spicy “Bitches Brew” is a blend of tomato juice, freshly squeezed lime juice, spices, and Tecate beer. You’ll get a whole can of the pale lager on the side to mix into the glass as you please. There’s also a headier libation called the “Boatman’s Call,” which combines Genever (a Dutch Gin), ginger, fresh lemon juice, and Guinness. The velvety, dark Guinness is the perfect counterpart to the brightness of the juniper and citrus flavors in the drink.
