Where to Eat (RED), Drink (RED) and Save Lives This June
Thanks to the annual edible offshoot of the (RED) campaign — which raises money for the Global Fund, an organization designed to accelerate the end of AIDS — you can Eat (RED), Drink (RED) and Save Lives, throughout the entire month of June. So here are multiple ways to turn your food choices into a force to fight epidemics, from a subscription to HelloFresh to a Mario Batali restaurant resy…
The (RED) Supper at Bonnaroo: RED and the music and arts festival, known as Bonnaroo, are teaming up with James Beard Award winning chef of Top Chef fame, Hugh Acheson, for a three-course dinner on June 8th, the first night of the festival (100% of profits from $75 tickets benefit the Global Fund).
HelloFresh (RED): Eat (RED) promotions aren’t exclusively limited to restaurants this year. Home cooks can get in on the action thanks to HelloFresh meal kits, designed by chef ambassadors such as Emeril Lagasse (herby Dijon chicken breasts), Rachael Ray (grilled buffalo chicken with celery slaw), and Carla Hall (summery lemon chicken with tarragon chimichurri). When you use the ordering code, HELLORED, HelloFresh will offer a $20 discount off the first box, and make a $20 donation to fight AIDS. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will also match every donation by HelloFresh, up to $500,000.
Eat (RED) Food & Film Fest: Join Mario Batali, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Danny Bowien, Ina Garten and Angie Mar in Bryant Park for a screening of “Sleepless in Seattle” paired with delicious dishes, cocktails, wine and Birra Moretti beer. 100% of the $100 tickets will go towards the cause, supplemented by dollar matching by Bank of America and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (meaning every attendee will generate $600 to fight AIDS).
Mario Batali Restaurants: Since Mario Batali is a lead organizer of the campaign, most of his restaurants are getting into the Eat (RED) act; look for Stracenate Pasta with cherry tomatoes at La Sirena, beef carpaccio at Del Posto, and a sundae of chocolate cake, cherry gelato, dark chocolate gelato, and cherry crema at Otto.
Luke’s Lobster: Give yourself permission to gorge on lobster rolls at this June, and be sure to add an extra $1 for AIDS on top of your check (Luke’s will also donate a matching buck, up to $3,000).
The Palm Restaurants: Visit any location for the signature (RED) menu item; a 35 Day Dry-Aged Prime Bone-In New York 20 oz. Strip Steak.
Max Brenner: The indulgent chocolate house is adding two (RED) menu items to their brunch lineup; a strawberry sugar waffle, topped with velvety white chocolate sauce, freshly whipped cream and milk chocolate chunks, as well as a (RED) mimosa.
Seamore’s: Michael Chernow’s seafood palace will offer diners a signature (RED) salad, made with watermelon, tomatoes, jalapenos and ricotta.
Hedley & Bennett: The quality chef-wear artisans have collaborated with longstanding (RED) chef Ambassador, Dominique Ansel, to create a limited-edition custom apron available only during the month of June.
